NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team picked up a conference win at the Doghouse Monday evening as the Bloodhounds beat Lehman College 75-57.
The win lifts John Jay's record to 11-9 this season and 8-3 in CUNYAC play. Lehman College is now 3-17 and 3-8 in CUNYAC.
John Jay was led by Victoria Story with 27 points and three assists. Meanwhile Jamecia Forsythe added 17 points and a career-high 25 rebounds. Aneska Tejada came off the bench and added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Lehman College was led by Kianti Powell with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds.
The first half was close most of the way. John Jay did not take control of the first period in the latter stages. After the visiting Lightning took a six point lead and led 23-17 with 6:02 left, the Bloodhounds closed out the first half on a 17-2 run to open a nine point lead at halftime. Story connected on a three point continuation play just a second before halftime to cap the run as John Jay led 34-25 at the intermission.
The Bloodhounds never lost the lead in the second half. Lehman was within four in the early portion of the half. But with Lehman down 38-34, John Jay used a 14-0 run to take a 50-34 lead with 12:53 to play.
John Jay kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way en route to the win. The Bloodhounds 18-point win was the largest lead of the night just before the final buzzer.
John Jay dominated inside and outscored the Lightning 40-10 on points in the paint. The Bloodhounds also held a 10-0 advantage on fast break points.
John Jay is back in action on Wednesday for a game at Hunter College at 5:30 p.m.
