Augsburg rallies in second half to top Macalester 49-45

Augsburg out-scored the Scots 26-9 over the final 11:15 to rally past Macalester 49-45 at the Leonard Center  in the next-to-last game of the season.

 

Both teams took a while to get going offensively and combined to go 2-for-31 over the game's first 12 minutes.  Macalester canned its first basket at the 7:43 mark and a couple minutes later gained its first lead at 8-7.  The Scots held their advantage the rest of the period and led 18-14 at halftime.

 

Mac led for nearly the entire second half and was on top by 13 points at 36-23 before the Auggies got hot, eventually taking their first lead of the period with 2:01 to go.

 

Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) carried much of the load for the Scots, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds and a couple blocked shots.  Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) played her final game at the Leonard Center on Senior Night by contributing 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

 

Jill Tichy scored 14 points and Anne Skriba and Jenna Orth chipped in with 12 points apiece to lead Augsburg (9-15 / 7-14 MIAC) .   The Auggies overcame and 47-32 rebounding deficit by holding the Scots to a 26% shooting figure.

 

Macalester (4-20 / 3-18 MIAC) closes out the campaign Saturday (Feb. 26) at Bethel.
