Bloomington, Ill.- The Wheaton women's basketball team used a late run to erase a 10-point deficit and earn a 75-67 road victory over the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Saturday night. The victory gives Wheaton the regular season sweep of the Titans for the first time since 2004-05. The victory moves Wheaton to 17-3 and 8-2 in the conference while dropping the Titans to 14-7 and 7-3 in the CCIW.
Illinois Wesleyan raced out to a quick 16-6 lead in the first six minutes and held a commanding lead throughout the first half, earning their biggest lead of the half at 12 points with 6:40 remaining in the half. The Thunder would close the half on a 13-4 run to cut the halftime lead to 36-35 in favor of the Titans.
The second half remained close early before the Titans built another 10-point lead at 58-48 with 10:24 remaining. Consecutive three-pointers by Breanna Bohlen jumpstarted a 13-3 Thunder run over the next five minutes to tie the game for the first time at 61. Another jumper by Bohlen would give Wheaton their first lead of the night 64-63 with 3:56 remaining.
Wheaton's Brooke Olson extended the run from the free throw line, scoring Wheaton's final eight points from the charity stripe to ice away the 75-67 victory. In whole, Wheaton finished the game on a 27-9 run.
Wheaton shot 36.8% (21-57) and 35.5% (11-31) from the three-point line and the Thunder were 22-30 (73.3%) from the free throw line. The Titans shot 33.9% (21-62) from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from the three-point line while shooting 20-27 (74.1%) from the charity stripe.
Bohlen and Olson each finished with 27 points as the duo accounted for all 11 of Wheaton's three-point field goals. Olson finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds as well as four assists. Bohlen grabbed nine rebounds of her own.
Katy Seibring led three Titans in double figures with 18 points and nine rebounds. Colleen McMahon scored 15.
