PITTSBURGH, PA - A stifling La Roche defense made for a tough day for the Medaille women's basketball team as the Redhawks forced the Lady Mavs into (27) turnovers en route to a (77-61) victory over Medaille.  The game was a matchup between the AMCC's top two teams but La Roche came out on top.

It was a tough shooting day for both squads with Medaille only able to connect on (37.7%) of their shots while La Roche shot at a (38.6%) clip.  Both struggeld from long distance as well with the Lady Mavs hitting (21.1%) of their tries and La Roche just (29.4%).  It would be the Redhawk defense that would prove to be the difference as they swarmed Medaille and forced those (27) miscues.  Even more impressive was the (39) points they scored off those turnovers.  The Lady Mavs only managed to force (9) La Roche turnovers in the loss.  The Redhawks also tallied (28) points on transition buckets.

The Lady Mavs were led by junior Joelle Pollak who notched a game high (21) points while pulling down (7) boards and assisting on a pair of baskets.  Sophomore Morgan Howe made the most of her attempts from the floor, shooting (5 for 5) for a ten point outing.

The battle of the boards was a close one and two Medaille players pulled down double digit caroms with Alicia Montalvo grabbing a game high (12) rebounds and rookie Brittnee Perry gathered in (10) of her own.

The Lady Mavs grabbed a six point lead early but that would be short lived as La Roche stormed back to grab the lead back.  Midway through the second half the Redhawks would see their lead swell to a game high (24) points.  The Lady Mavs would chip away slowly but could not get back in it down the stretch.

The loss drops Medaille to (12-7) overall and they slip into second place in the AMCC standings at (10-2).  They will have another critical conference matchup on Wednesday (1/30) when they head to Penn State-Behrend to take on the third place Lions at 6:00pm.
