NEW LONDON, Conn. – Regis College never trailed en route to a 79-49 victory over Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Regis (13-4 overall, 10-0 NECC) extended its winning streak to eight games behind solid performances by Emilee Marro and Claire Ramonas. Marro led all scorers with 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting and added nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ramonas finished with 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting and grabbed three boards.
Senior Kaylee Cerruto paced Mitchell (3-13 overall, 3-7 NECC) with 15 points and handed out four assists. The Mariners shot just 34 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 27 times.
Mitchell hung close through the game's first 10 minutes, but Regis pulled ahead by double digits behind a 15-2 run over a 4:54 stretch. Lauren Kimble accounted for six points during the spurt, and Ramonas capped the run with a lay-up to put the Pride up 31-15 with 4:25 to go in the stanza.
A three-pointer by Kimble right before the halftime buzzer gave Regis a 39-20 lead heading into the break. Marro netted 16 of her 22 points in the opening half to lead all scorers.
The Pride opened the second half with a 15-1 run to take complete control. Janaya Bradley and Marro each scored four points during the stretch as Regis pumped the lead to 33. Mitchell went without a field goal for the first six minutes of the stanza before sophomore Cara Begley connected on a jumper.
Cerruto got hot and scored 12 points over the final 14 minutes to lead the Mariners, but it was too little, too late. The Pride shot 48 percent for the game and also held a commanding 46-22 edge on the glass. Kimble finished with nine points while Bradley and Sabree Rodriguez each chipped in with eight.
Mitchell will next play at Newbury College on Tuesday, January 29 at 6 p.m. Regis returns to action at home against Wheelock College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
