St. Catherine gains first MIAC win

Macalester forced overtime with a late run and received career high scoring totals from Erika Weimann (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.), Carmen Whitehead (Jr., Greeley, Colo. / West) and Erin Murray (Fy., Sparta, Wis.), but visiting St.  Catherine netted the first eight points of overtime, going on to win 82-82.

Weimann knocked down 4-of-6 from outside the arc, while also producing three assists and three steals.  Whitehead contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while going 5-for-8 from the floor.  Murray scored 14 points.

Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) added nine points, six boards and five steals for the Scots.

The Scots pressed for a 26-14 turnover advantage and had a 20-10 margin in offensive rebounds.

Macalester's bench tallied 49 points, but SCU had all five of its starters reach double figures and for the evening shot 54% from the floor, including 9-of-16 from three-point range.    Sarina Baker paced the Wildcats with 18 points, while Kristen Lee and Mary Neumann added 16 apiece.  St. Kate's snapped a 13-game losing skid.

The Scots play Wednesday (Jan. 23) at St. Benedict.
