(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 11th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team used a 41-9 run in the middle of the game today (Saturday, January 12, 2013) to defeat Saint Vincent College, 63-50, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 14-1 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 8-0. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in the PAC.
Thomas More took an early 4-0 lead when senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up with 17:59 to play in the first half. Saint Vincent answered with an 18-8 run capped by two Devin McGrath free-throws to take an 18-12 lead with 9:48 to play in opening half. The Saints closed out the half on a 22-0 run to take a 34-18 lead at intermission when sophomore guard Sydni Wainscott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) made a jumper with 36-seconds to play in the half.
The Saints opened the second half on a 19-9 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 53-27 when junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up with 12:13 to play in the game. Saint Vincent used a 23-8 run to cut the lead to 61-50 with 40-seconds to play in the game when Ashley Darby made two free-throws. Freshman guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made two free-throws with 33-seconds to play in the game for the final score of 63-50.
Three Saints finished in double-figure scoring as Long had 15 and junior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and Beasley both finished with 13 points each. Sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the team on the boards with nine rebounds. Long led the team in steals with four, while she and Wainscott each had three assists to lead the team in assists.
Thomas More closes out the first half of PAC play on Wednesday (January 6, 2013) when it travels to Bethany, West Virginia to play Bethany College at 6 p.m.
