Women’s Basketball Drops Monday Matchup with Montclair

More news about: Stevens

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (December 10, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to undefeated Montclair State University 79-42 on Monday night. The Red Hawks - who are receiving votes in both polls - raised their record to 8-0 on the year. Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) led the Ducks with 16 points.

Montclair scored the first six points of the night and did not give up the lead again. Though the Ducks shot a decent 47 percent from the floor in the first half, the Hawks forced 23 turnovers in the first period alone in what was the Achilles Heel for Stevens.

Despite Benjamin scoring 14 points in the first half, Stevens went into the break trailing 40-24. The second half was similar to the first, and Montclair came away with the victory over its in-state rival.

Rebounds were nearly even, with MSU holding a 44-41advantage…steals and turnovers were the story of the game, with the Red Hawks enjoying positive differentials of 23 and 24, respectively.

Stevens will play again on Saturday, when they host another NJAC school – The College of New Jersey – at 1 p.m. inside Canavan Arena.
