WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The York College women's basketball team was defeated 57-33 by Gallaudet University this afternoon in the first game of the Gallaudet Holiday Tournament being played in the nation's capital.
Sophomore center Stayce Kay Muirhead had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds but could it would not be enough to keep the game close. The Cardinals had 30 turnovers as a team and allowed 38 points in the paint to help Gallaudet lead steadily throughout the game. Junior forward Nia Rene led York with 11 points in the first half, finishing with 13 points and five rebounds. York as a team shot just 24% from the field and never got into a good rhythm all game.
Gallaudet's (2-0) bench was impressive, outscoring York 16-0 and shooting a near 40% from the field as a team. Senior forward Lindsay Stergio led the bisons with 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists and two steals. The Bisons will take on Valley Forge College (2-2) in the Tournament Championship game tomorrow at 4 pm.
The Cardinals fall to 0-3 on the season and look to bounce back for their first win of the season in the Tournament Consolation Game at 12 pm against Wesley College (0-4).
