St. Ben's beats Macalester by 10

St. Benedict led by four points with 2:18 to play and out-scored the hosts 8-2 the rest of the way to gain a 57-47 MIAC victory over Macalester at the Leonard Center.  The Blazers out-scored the Scots 18-2 from the free throw stripe and improve to 5-2 on the season, 3-1 in MIAC play.  The Scots fall to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.

 

Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) produced 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists to lead the way for the Scots, who have their two-game conference win streak snapped. 

 

Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) added eight points and a pair of blocked shots, and Erin Murray (Fy., Sparta, Wis.) came off the bench to contributed six points.  Annie Drabot (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) pulled down seven rebounds.

 

The lead changed hands seven times and the score was tied four times in the opening half, with CSB leading 28-26 at the break.  The Blazers led the entire second half, but the score was close most of the way.

 

St. Ben's was led by Brianna Barrett with 20 points, while Tish Alexander added 12 points, five steals and four rebounds off the bench.

 

The Scots play Saturday (Dec. 8) at Augsburg and are then off until Jan. 2.
