It was a record setting performance for the Buena Vista women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon which built a 61-19 halftime lead and set a school record for points scored in a single game during its 118-57 non-conference road victory at Crown College (2-4).

Freshman Lexi Fisher (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) led four Beavers in double-figures with 16 points.  Sophomore Melissa Greve (Arcadia, Iowa/Ar-We-Va), who had scored 11 points on the year coming into the game, scored a career-high 15 points.  Junior Susan Kies (Fonda, Iowa/Newell-Fonda) also added 15 points, while fellow junior Malarie Gilley (Grand Junction/East Greene) turned in 11.

Thirteen players scored for BVU in the contest, including 11 with at least five points.  Kies, along with sophomore Becca Pennington (Mt. Ayr, Iowa/Mt. Ayr) and freshman Lacey Vokt (Audubon, Iowa/Audubon) dished out five assists, as the Beavers tallied 32 assists on 46 made field goals.

The Beavers shot 57.5 percent from the field in the contest, including 9-of-18 from downtown.  It also sank 17-of-22 free-throw attempts.

Defensively, senior Heather Hansman (Westside, Iowa/Ar-We-Va) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds with fellow senior Tara Lehner (Le Mars, Iowa/Le Mars) right behind with six.  As a team, the Beavers out-rebounded Crown, 50-35.  They also forced a season-high 34 turnovers.

BVU, which never trailed, scored 19 of the game's first 21 points and built a 39-8 advantage with 8:42 left in the first half.   The Beavers continued to roll from there extending the margin to 42 at the break.

The Beavers then scored the first 13 points of the second half to lead 78-19 with only five minutes gone by.  The lead then hit 64 two minutes later before Crown went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes.

A three-pointer by Kies with 5:30 to play put BVU at the century mark for the first time since 2007-08, and Jasmyn Flynn's (Council Bluffs, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln) layup with 38 ticks left set the new record for points in a game.  The previous mark of 115 was set in 1996-97 when the Beavers topped Martin Luther College, 115-44.

Buena Vista has now won three straight games and sits at 4-3 overall.  The team returns to the court on Thursday, December 6, when it travels to Martin Luther for a 7:00pm tip-off.
