Pike leads Macalester past St. Olaf

Taylor Pike (Jr., Ashland, Neb. / Ashland-Greenwood) went 4-for-6 from long range and 7-for-8 from the free throw stripe to score a career-high 23 points and Macalester past St. Olaf 61-58 Saturday afternoon at the Leonard Center.  The Scots pick up their initial conference win and improve to 2-3 on the season. 1-1 in the MIAC.

 

Macalester led throughout much of the first half and turned a 20-19 lead with 5:52 remaining into a 30-21 advantage with a 10-2 run.  Mac led 35-27 at the intermission.  St. Olaf's last lead came with 8:08 left and after the contest was deadlocked at 50-50 with 3:06 remaining on the clock, the Scots regained the lead for good on a Katherine Medinger (Jr., Sitka, Alaska) free throw with 2:31 left.

 

Joining Pike in double figures was Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) with 10 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and three blocked shots.  Annie Drabot (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) came off the bench to provide the team with nine points.

 

St. Olaf, now 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC, was led by Kim Cerjan with 14 points and Erin Haglund with 13.  The Oles led 34-14 in points in the paint and 14-6 in second chance points.

 

The Scots host St. Benedict on Wednesday (Dec. 5) at 7:30 p.m.
