Oneonta 59, Utica 29 - Women's Basketball Final

Utica, NY (11/26/2012) - Utica College junior forward Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) hauled in a career-high 22 rebounds, including 16 on the offensive glass, but it was not enough to fend off visiting Oneonta State Monday night in the home-opener for the UC women's basketball team.  The Red Dragons held the Pioneers to just eight points in the second half and 18% (11-for-61) shooting from the floor on their way to a 59-29 victory in non-conference action. 

Oneonta (3-1) received double-digit scoring efforts from three players including Kristin Pappalardo (16), Lyteshia Price (12) and Alyshia Crawford (10) as the Red Dragons downed UC for the third consecutive season.  The Pioneers (2-1) dropped their first contest of the year as they were led in the scoring column by Greenwald's nine points. 

Utica led 9-6 7:30 into the first half of play before the visitors used a 15-0 run in a span of the next 6:01 to take a healthy 21-9 lead with 5:37 to go before the half.  Utica outscored Oneonta 12-9 in the final 5:16 of the first half to trail by nine, 30-21 at the intermission. 

Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping), who enter the contest leading UC in scoring, netted her only lay-up of the game to open the second half, but the Red Dragons responded with a 17-3 run in the next 6:21 of action to take a 47-26 lead with 12:21 to play. 

Utica only managed three points in the final 13 minutes, as the Red Dragons pulled away for the 30 point victory. 

Oneonta scored 19 points off of 22 Utica turnovers and the Red Dragons knocked down six 3-pointers over the course of the contest.  Price chipped in with 11 rebounds to secure her double-double, while Kelly Mulligan came off the bench to post seven assists, three points and two rebounds.   Price was just four steals shy of a triple-double as she totaled six steals. 

Alyssa Filkins (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) poured in five points for Utica, while senior guard Brittany Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island) added nine rebounds, three points, two assists and two steals.  Raquel Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) scored six points on 2-of-4 shooting from behind the arc for Utica.  Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) added six rebounds and four points. 

UC outrebounded the Red Dragons 57-44 on the afternoon. 

Utica turns right back around on Tuesday night when it hosts RPI in game two of a four game home stand at 6 p.m. Oneonta, winners of three in a row, returns to the hardwood on Wednesday when it hosts cross-town rival Hartwick at 6 p.m.
