No. 24 Eagles Fly Past Griffins 65-56 in Home Opener

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Trailing by two at the half, No. 24 Juniata women's basketball rebounded past Gwynedd-Mercy 65-56 for its third straight win.  The Eagles (3-0) were led by junior Kate McDonald (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) who finished with her third double-double in three games.  The forward earned a career-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Senior Jordan Speck (Huntingdon, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) and junior Jordan Hileman (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) also finished double-digits in points.  Speck finished with 15 points while Hileman earned 10, respectively.

Juniata grabbed a season-high 13 steals and earned over a quarter of its points off turnovers.

Shea Wassel finished with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Griffins who dropped to 1-2 with the loss. 

Juniata spends the next four games on the road starting at Frostburg State University on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. before their Landmark Conference opener against Moravian College Saturday, Dec. 1.  The Eagles have been meeting Frostburg since the 1975-76 season. While they are 4-8 all-time against the Bobcats, Juniata is 2-1 under Head Coach Danny Young-Uhrich after winning the last two meetings.  Juniata defeated the Bobcats 77-40 at home last year and pulled out a 74-68 win on the road in 2010.
