#16 Tufts Earns 64-54 Road Win at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 20, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team was defeated by 16th ranked Tufts University, 64-54 in a non-conference meeting Tuesday night. 

The Jumbos improve to 3-0 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer dips to 0-3.

Sophomore Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass.) led the Jumbos with 16 points on 6-11 shooting. Senior Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, N.Y.) had nine points, six rebounds, and game-highs of eight assists and three blocks. Sophomore Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) added eight points and seven boards.

Sophomore Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded a career best 20 points to lead Colby-Sawyer. She added six rebounds and a game-high four steals. Senior Cailin Bullett(Millbury, Mass.) had 12 points, while junior Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass.) and senior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) each had eight.

Tufts jumped out to an early 15-4 lead after connecting on four three-pointers with the shot clock running down on each possession. The Chargers, who trailed by as much as 17, ended the first half on a    mini-run to cut the deficit to nine heading into the break. Cahill led the Chargers with seven points, while Kelsey Morehead (Foster City, Calif.) led eight first half Tufts' scorers with six points.

Colby-Sawyer kept the game within reach in the second half thanks to 48% shooting from the floor and 11 Tufts turnovers, which led to 15 points. The Jumbos used a 10 rebound advantage in the frame to create separation whenever the Chargers made a run.

Tufts held a 37-27 edge in rebounding, which led to a 17-3 discrepancy in second chance points.

Colby-Sawyer plays at Norwich on Tuesday, November 27 at 5:30 pm, while the Jumbos host Brandeis on Sunday, November 25 at 2:00 pm.
