More news about: Macalester

Macalester opened its season in Colorado Springs with a defensive-minded game against Nebraska Wesleyan.  In a contest where the two teams combined to shoot just 32% from the field, NWU held off the Scots 52-40.

Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) carried most of the load for the Scots, finishing with 14 points on a 6-for-10 shooting night, while also providing the team with six rebounds and four steals.  Leading the way in the paint was Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) with eight boards and three blocked shots.

The game was dominated by Nebraska Wesleyan's Mallory Shanahan, who had 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Macalester led 12-5 on a Taylor Pike (Jr., Ashland, Neb. / Ashland-Greenwood) three-pointer at the 11:23 mark of the first half.  A couple minutes later, however, NWU began a 10-0 run to go on top 19-14 with 5:25 remaining.  The Prairie Wolves led 25-19 at halftime and never let the Scots back in the game in the second period.

Colorado College plays host to the Scots tomorrow at 5 p.m.  (Mountain time) for Mac's second game this weekend in Colorado Springs.
