MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) made back-to-back three-pointers to give Gallaudet University a lead early in the second half but that was short lived on the road Saturday as Morrisville State University mounted a huge run to hand the Bison a 64-48 loss in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women's basketball game.
Gallaudet (5-14, 3-10 NEAC South Division) led 33-31 with less than 15 minutes left in regulation before Morrisville (7-12, 6-6 NEAC North) went on an 18-1 run over the course of seven minutes. The Mustangs led 49-34 as they capitalized on five of Gallaudet's 24 turnovers in the contest during that decisive run. The game featured five ties and 10 lead changes but there was no comeback for GU after it lost the lead in the second half.
Latham led the Bison with 19 points, 11 in the second half, as she made five three-pointers on 10 attempts coming off the bench. Fellow sophomore guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) came off the bench to net eight points and pass out five assists to go with two rebounds and two steals. Freshman forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) led the team with six rebounds as she added four points. GU's bench, led by Latham and Weiss, outscored Morrisville's reserves 32-12. Gallaudet also shot better from the field with a 38.6 percentage to the 35.7 percent mark put up by the Mustangs, who took an additional 26 shots.
