The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was unable to win its second game in a row Tuesday night and fell 82-56 to visiting Monmouth College. The Foresters alternated wins and losses throughout their nine games in the month of January.
Freshman guard Danielle Canulli came off the bench to lead Lake Forest in scoring for the second straight game. She shot 6-for-9 from the field and finished with 13 points and a pair of steals in 23 minutes.
Junior guards Lindsay Wallaert and Sam Schuring led the home team with six rebounds and seven assists, respectively.
The Foresters shot just 35.8 percent from the floor while Monmouth connected on 45.5 percent of their field goal attempts. The Fighting Scots also made eight of 17 three-pointers and 14 of 18 free throws while Lake Forest shot jusy 4-for-26 from beyond the arc and 4-for-10 from the foul line. The visitors also had a 45-39 edge in rebounds and a 15-19 advantage in turnovers.
Lake Forest jumped out to an 11-3 lead and was ahead 16-10 before surrendering a 20-2 run over the next eight minutes. A three-pointer in the closing seconds of the opening period gave Monmouth a 44-28 halftime lead.
The Foresters closed to within 11 points early in the second half bu would get no closer.
Lake Forest hopes to continue its win-loss pattern Friday evening at Lawrence University. The game will begin at 5:00. The Foresters will also travel to Carroll University on Saturday for a 2:00 tip-off. They will be looking to sweep the season series against both opponents.
