Millikin Women Slip Past Vikings

          The Millikin women's basketball team defeated North Park University 77-72 on Feb. 11 at the Griswold Center.  Millikin improves to 15-8, 7-5 and keeps their hopes alive of earning a spot in the CCIW Tournament.  With the conference's top four teams advancing to the tournament, Millikin is fifth one game behind Elmhurst heading into the Bluejays' game on Saturday night.

          North Park had a 34-29 advantage at halftime, but the Big Blue battled back to control the games' final 10 minutes.  Millikin's second half rally was spurred by hot three-point shooting when the Big Blue hit on seven of 11 shots from behind the arc (63.6 percent).  Millikin shot 45.6 percent from the field for the game including 53 percent from three-point range.  North Park shot 44 percent from the field and struggled from long distance hitting only 20 percent of its shots.  Millikin won the battle on the boards 39-34.

          Millikin got 23 points from senior Julia Robert and 15 from senior Heather Pruemer.  Robert had a team high nine rebounds. 

          North Park's top scorer was Roxanne Jones with 27 followed by Sarah Peterson with 22 points.

          Millikin will host Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
