Rene and Schiedermayer lead Macalester past Augsburg

Macalester closed out the game with a 7-0 run, scoring all of its points from the foul line, to turn a tie game with two minutes left into a 56-49 win over Augsburg in Minneapolis.  Held to just 19 first half points, the Scots shot 55% in the second period to come from behind.

 

Jessica Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) and Holly Schiedermayer (Sr., Waupaca, Wis.) had big games to lead the Scots, each finishing with 21 points.  Rene got her 21 with the help of a red-hot 4-for-5 three-point shooting performance, and Schiedermayer made all nine of her shots while also grabbing nine rebounds.  Rene was  7-for-8 from the free throw line.

 

Schiedermayer's perfect 9-for-9 shooting night brings her team-leading scoring average on the season to 15.2.  She now has eight 20-point performances.

 

Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) also had a good all-around game, finishing with six points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.  Kyanna Jones (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) helped the defensive effort with four steals.  Shannon Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) handed out six assists.

 

Macalester improves to 10-12 on the season and 8-11 in the MIAC.  Augsburg is 12-10 overall and 9-10 in the MIAC.

 

The Scots held Augsburg to a 35% shooting figure.   Serenae Levine led three players in double figures with 12 points.

 

Macalester plays host to Gustavus Saturday (Feb. 11) at 3 p.m. on Pink Zone Day.
