The Millikin women's basketball team won an important conference road win at Elmhurst College 83-75 on Feb. 8. The win keeps alive the Big Blue hopes of earning a spot in the CCIW Tournament.
Elmhurst had a 38-31 lead at the half before the Big Blue made their comeback. The game was a back-and-fourth contest for most the second half. The game was tied for the 12th and final time at 64-64. Millikin would then go on a 5-0 run to open up the game. The Big Blue's final push was spurred by a Heather Pruemer three point with 3:19 remaining followed second later by a Olya Cholewick basket.
Millikin shot 43 percent from the field for the game while Elmhurst converted on 39 percent. Millikin out rebounded the Bluejays 43-35.
Millikin had a balanced score attack led by Pruemer and Crystal Zeigler each with 18 points. Zeigler added a team high eight rebounds. Cecily Aldridge scored 13 and Julia Robert added 10.
Elmhurst got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Megan Ney.
Millikin improved to 14-8 and 6-5 in the CCIW. Elmhurst is now 16-6 and 7-4 in conference play. After Wednesday's action, Illinois Wesleyan is still in first in conference followed by Carthage and Wheaton at 8-3. Elmhurst is now in fourth with a one game lead over Millikin. The top four teams advance to the CCIW Tournament.
Millikin will host North Park University on Senior Day on Saturday, Feb 11 at 2 p.m.
