That truth was realized for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team Wednesday night against a hard-nosed Widener team. After taking a commanding a lead in the early going, the Blue Jays saw the game slowly slip from their grasp, and their three game winning streak come to an end in a 79-52 Commonwealth Conference loss to the Pride.

That truth was realized for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team Wednesday night against a hard-nosed Widener team. After taking a commanding a lead in the early going, the Blue Jays saw the game slowly slip from their grasp, and their three game winning streak come to an end in a 79-52 Commonwealth Conference loss to the Pride.
The Blue Jays (13-6, 6-3 CC) were playing their brand of basketball in opening minutes of the contest. E-town held the lead for the majority of the first half. Nadine Yunginger was the leading point getter, putting up 10 points with two assists. Stephanie Ellwood contributed to the breakout forcing three steals and pulling down three rebounds.
E-town led for the opening 14 minutes, but in the blink of an eye, Widener shifted the complexion of the game. The Pride (13-7, 6-3 CC) took control of the lead after Jennifer Egee drained a three-pointer to set the score at 22-20 with six minutes remaining in the first. Egee would go on to score 19 points in the first half.
The Jays were unable to regroup following the lead change, as Widener outscored E-town 18-5 in the final 6:26 of the half for a 40-25 lead at the break.
A second half turnaround was not in the cards for Elizabethtown Wednesday night. Widener's offense was prolific in the second half. At one point, the Pride held a 30-point lead on the, 67-37. Three Pride players also put up double digits, led by Egee's career-high 21 points. Lil Carney scored 17 and Kate Dellinger 14 for Widener, which moved into a tie with E-town at 6-3 in league play.
Kendra Beittel turned up her game in the second half, leading the team with 12 points. Yunginger had 11, Taylor Kreider scored nine and Jayci Scannapieco scored five with four rebounds.
The Blue Jays have the chance to rebound this weekend. Elizabethtown will host Albright on Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium on its Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
