Macalester upsets St. Olaf 59-50

Macalester held its guests to a 24% shooting figure to topple St. Olaf 59-50 at the Leonard Center.  The Scots have won three of their last four and move to 8-9 overall and 6-8 in the MIAC. 

 

Shannon Rene (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) drained 4-of-6 from behind the arc and finished with 14 points to go along with three assists.  She is 9-for-13 on three-point shots over Mac's last two games.  Holly Schiedermayer (Sr, Waupaca, Wis.) went 9-for-14 from the free throw stripe and finished with 19 points and six rebounds.  Last week's MIAC player of the week, Schiedermayer also had three blocks and a couple assists.

 

Kyanna Jones (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) was Macalester's top rebounder with nine boards.  Maggie Wood (Sr., Oregon, Wis. / Madison Edgewood) helped the cause with three assists and three steals.

 

St. Olaf drops to 12-5 on the year and 9-5 in the MIAC.  The Oles were led by Nikki Frogner with 11 points, six boards and five blocks.  Mackenzie Wolter had nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists a  nd a couple blocked shots.  The Oles blocked 10 shots on the night and attacked the boards for 23 offensive rebounds.

 

Next up for Macalester is an MIAC game Saturday (Jan. 28) at Bethel.
