Basketball Storms Back to Tame Cougars, Rahn Third All Time Scorer

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith basketball team pulled out a come from behind road conference victory against Averett University on Tuesday night. The Avenging Angels took the game 58-53 after trailing the majority of the game. Meredith's Megan Rahn moved into third all time as she scored 20 points and into double digits for the 18th time in a row. Rahn (Broughton High School/Raleigh, N.C.) now has 1,485 career points and passed Brittany Cornelius (2006-2010) who was third all time with 1,468.

The game started tight until Averett (10-7, 6-4 USA South) held Meredith (5-11, 3-7) scoreless for seven minutes between the 8:58 and 2:04 minute marks in the first half and went on a 11-0 run to push the lead to 25-9. Meredith was cold from the floor and only hit 17% as the Cougars took the 25-16 lead into halftime.

Meredith stormed back after a slow start and improved their shooting in the second half. The Avenging Angels took their first lead of the game with 3:38 remaining as a layup by Rebekah Cox gave Meredith the 48-47 advantage. Key shots by Rahn, Keyanka Bailey, Rah'nika Jones and free throws from Bryana Holmes down the stretch gave Meredith the 58-53 win.

Rahn led all Meredith scorers with her double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists. Kristen Alford put in nine points while both Holmes and Jones had six points and six rebounds each.

Meredith next travels to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
