DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College went on a 15-2 run over the final four minutes as the Aggies pulled away to a 71-57, Freedom Conference victory over visiting Manhattanville College.
Delaware Valley improved to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference while the Valiants fell to 6-9 and 1-4.
The teams were tied at 52-52 when freshman Brenna Coll hit back-to-back layups to give Delaware Valley the lead. However, Manhattanville's Taylor Wilson swished a 3-pointer to make it a 56-55 ballgame.
The rest belonged to the Aggies, starting with 10 straight points to make it 66-55 with 1:18 remaining. Sarah Delcasale notched layups on consecutive possessions, and Emily Soper followed with a jumper. Shannon Barlow and Delcasale added two free throws apiece in the spurt.
Kelli Hyjek broke the Delaware Valley run with a layup, but that was the last bucket for Manhattanville as Delcasale hit four free throws and Mirack sank one down the stretch for the 14-point victory.
Both teams struggled from the field all evening as the Aggies shot just 34.9 percent, but held the Valiants to 26.8 percent shooting. Manhattanville held a 59-47 rebounding advantage, but it turned the ball over 25 times.
Brittany Battinieri connected on four treys and finished with 17 points as the Delaware Valley senior went over the 1,200-point plateau (1,204) for her career. She also dished out five assists.
Delcasale came off the bench to pour in 12 points while also added four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Coll and Soper finished with 12 points each and the two combined for 14 rebounds. Jackie Shunkwiler notched eight points and seven boards in the win.
Wilson paced Manhattanville with 21 points. Jennifer Mcshara had nine points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
