UMHB women fall to Concordia

Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team made a pair of second-half runs, but the Cru could not overcome another late offensive cold spell in a 64-51 loss to Concordia Texas Tuesday evening in Belton. The UMHB women fall to 1-12 overall and 0-9 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Tornados improve to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in the ASC on the season with the win.

The game was close throughout the first half with Concordia using a late rally to take a 26-24 halftime lead. The Tornados would push the lead to double figures at 39-29 early in the second half before the Cru started to chip away. Cortney Poncik hit a pair of free throws to close a 16-9 run and pull UMHB to within three points at 48-45. The two teams traded baskets before Concordia went on a 7-0 run to take the lead back to double digits. The Cru would not get closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Miranda Shorter had 12 points and seven rebounds for UMHB and Carmen Maciel added 12 points and six boards off the bench. The Cru shot just 31 percent from the field and went 0-11 from three-point range. UMHB also turned the ball over 25 times in the loss. The Cru did out rebound Concordia 46-38 in the game.

Concordia was led by Christen McLee's 12 points on 4-7 shooting. Ten different players scored with Alex O'Neal and Madi Hess adding nine points apiece. Concordia shot 34 percent from the field and went 21-26 from the free-throw line.

The Cru women will travel to Kerrville to take on Schreiner University in a 5:30 PM start on Thursday. UMHB will then return home to host Texas Lutheran University for a 1:00 PM tip-off on Saturday.
