The Millikin women's basketball team opened CCIW play with a 55-49 win over Augustana College on Jan. 4 in the Griswold Center. Millikin improves to 9-3, 1-0 while Augustana goes to 8-4, 0-1.
Millikin shot 39 percent from the field for the game and held Augustana to 29 percent. Both teams had 38 rebounds. The Vikings gave the Big Blue a major challenge. Millikin built a 28-18 lead at the half, but the Vikings kept chipping away
pulling even with the Big Blue at 40-40 with just under eight minutes left in the game.
Millikin then pulled away put another late rally brought the Vikings to within two at with two minutes left to play.
Millikin's top scorer was Cecily Aldridge with 17 points including two key free throws in the final two minutes. Julia Robert added 12 for Millikin. Heather Pruemer grabbed a team high eight rebounds and scored eight points.
Molly Ethridge had 14 to led the Vikings.
Millikin will travel to Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, Jan. 7 for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
