MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mississippi College women's basketball team wrapped up the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic with a 69-56 loss to Centre College on Friday afternoon at Roland Arena on the campus of Huntingdon College.
The Colonels (10-1) closed out the first half on a 12-0 run to take a 34-18 advantage into the break. The Lady Choctaws (5-5) cut the lead down to as few as eight points in the second half, but could not come all the way back.
The Lady Choctaws made 6-13 three-point field goals and outrebounded Centre, 38-26. MC pulled down 15 offensive boards, led by four from juniors Caitlin Brown and Elizabeth Brooks.
Junior Valeri Stewart led the team with 12 points, scoring 10 in the second half. Sophomore Sarah Workman poured in a season-high 10 points.
Brooks scored nine points, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out six assists.
Centre was led by preseason All-American Maggie Prewitt with 19 points and seven assists. Chelsea Benham also scored 19 points for the Colonels.
Centre shot 50% from the floor and made seven three-pointers.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday, January 5th when they host McMurry at 5:30 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
