Buffalo State Women’s Basketball Breaks Through Against Cortland, 80-68

BUFFALO, NY— Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Buffalo State (6-1/2-1) to an 80-68 victory over visiting Cortland (5-4/1-3) in a SUNYAC game this evening at the Sports Arena.  The win ended a 16-game losing streak against the Red Dragons that dated back to the 2002 SUNYAC Championship game.

Freshman Hillary Kollar (Johnstown/Johnstown) added 17 points off the bench.  Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and also had four steals.  Divine Sebuharara (Vestal/Vestal) chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.

Brooke DeMarco (Grand Island/Grand Island) led Cortland with 18 points.  Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt) had 12 points and six assists, and Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Hts./St. John the Baptist) added 10 points.

After Cortland took an early lead, Buffalo State turned up the pace and grabbed a 15-point lead late in the first half.  The Red Dragons closed the gap to 37-29 at the intermission.  The Bengals never gave up the lead in the second half.  After Cortland cut the deficit to four early, Buffalo State pulled away again for good. 

The Bengals outscored Cortland in the paint, 30-18, and outrebounded the Red Dragons, 46-34.

Buffalo State will host Oswego for a SUNYAC matinee tomorrow at 2 p.m.
