MENOMONIE (November 26, 2011) - UW-Stout put the defensive clamps on St. Scholastica, holding the Saints to no successful field goals for the first 14 minutes of the game on their way to a 90-53 decision in the Quality Inn and Suites Turkey Shootout Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 25-4 lead at 7:46 in the first half, and would not allow a field goal for another minute.
Stout (2-3) forced 16 first half turnovers of the Saints (0-4) and 21 total for the game. Stout held as much as a 25 point lead in the first half and ballooned that to as much as 47 points late in the game, shooting 55 percent over the final 20 minutes. Stout finished the game shooting 45.2 percent (33-73) and made nine 3-point shots.
Sami Schoeder (So, Durand) led all scorers with 14 points, eight coming in the first half, working only 17 total minutes. Alexa Herasimchuk (So, Whitefish Bay) came off the bench for the final nine minutes of the game and pumped in a career-high 10 points, nailing a pair of 3-pointers. All 19 players that suited up played and all but two scored.
Mariah Hovick led St. Scholastica with 11 points, all in the second half.
Stout will the University of Duquque, Sunday, Nov. 27 at 3 p.m., with the Saints will play UW-Whitewater at 11 a.m. Sunday.
