Monks Topple Lasers Women’s Basketball

STANDISH, ME- St. Joseph's College of Maine upended the Lasell College Lasers on Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Center, producing a 71-21 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball victory. 

 
 

The Monks were led by Alyssa Grigware (Biddeford, ME) who put up 14 points in just 15 minutes off the bench for St. Joseph's.  Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) netted 13 points on a 5-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-6 effort from the arc.  Allie Parent (Camden, ME) registered 10 points, five boards, four assists, and three steals and Ashley Geel (St. George, ME) connected for nine points while collecting six rebounds and five blocked shots. 

 

Lasell's only lead of the game came in the initial moments as Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA) converted on a layup to kick-off action.  Vincelette finished the game with seven points.  

 

JoAnna Bishop (So. Burlington, VT) was the top scorer for Lasell for the third game in a row.  Bishop tallied eight points in the contest while adding a game-high 10 rebounds in the defeat.

 

Throughout the contest, St. Joseph's shot 47% (29-62) from the field, 38% (6-16) from beyond the three-point line, and 64% (7-11) from the free throw line. Lasell shot just 17% (9-52) from the floor, and although they shot 75% from the stripe they were only sent to the line for four chances.   The Monks also won in the clash on the boards by a 44-35 margin. 

 

St. Joseph's is now 14-8 this season, and 6-3 in the GNAC while Lasell settles in at 1-22 overall and 0-10 in the league.

 

Lasell is set to play Johnson & Wales at home, on Tuesday, February 25th at 6:00 PM.
