Late Cougar Run Halts DSU Win Streak at Four

Dallas, PA (February 9, 2011) – Misericordia University shot 47.8 percent for the game and 55.0 percent in the second half leading to a 71-54 win over the DeSales University women's basketball team in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Center.

Freshman Sondrine Glovas led the Bulldogs with 17 points and junior Cherelle Simmons added 11 points and six rebounds.  Senior Lori Lidlow finished with nine points, while junior Hannah Smith totaled six points and four assists.

Jesse Robinson led all scorers with 27 points; Christine Marks registered a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Tyann McDaniel finished with 10 tallies in the win.

Misericordia scored the last five points of the opening half, extending a two-point lead into a seven-point cushion at the break (32-25).  The Bulldogs shot 50.0 percent from the field but committed 10 first-half turnovers.  The Cougars (14-8, 8-3 Freedom) had just seven first-half turnovers and enjoyed a 7-0 advantage at the free throw line.

DeSales (14-8, 7-4 Freedom) made several runs at the Cougar advantage in the second half, with the last spurt coming at the 8:01 mark when Simmons cashed in on a three-point play making it a 46-45 game.

The Bulldogs were still within four points (53-49) with 5:16 to play but nine straight points from Misericordia quickly gave the hosts a 13-point lead (62-49) and the Cougars iced the game from the line over the final two minutes.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host King's College in another critical Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
