(Buffalo, NY) – The 16th ranked Medaille College women's basketball team jumped out to an early (16-2) lead and then made a big run late to survive a tough shooting day, en route to a (63-48) win over D'Youville College this afternoon at the Sullivan Center.

The win is the 12th straight for Medaille and the 29th consecutive AMCC regular season victory.  However, it did not come easily.  After the Lady Mavs opened that big gap in the games first six minutes it seemed that they would cruise to victory.

The Spartans kept pushing back and the Lady Mavs shot a dismal (16.7%) from the floor in the second half to keep the game in question until the final two minutes when Medaille stretched a seven point lead to the final fifteen point edge that they ended the game with.

A trio of players reached the double digit scoring mark for Medaille as Joelle Pollak (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) led the way with (16) points, she also pulled down (5) boards and dished out (4) assists.  Senior Kacie Mills (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) chipped in with a dozen points and three assists while freshman Bianca Smiley (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) also had (12) points and she also grabbed (8) boards.

To offset their poor shooting, the Lady Mavs played tenacious defense, forcing D'Youville into (30) turnovers. Medaille was able to score (26) points off those miscues.  They also won the battle of the paint, outscoring the Spartans (28-18) in the lane.

The win moves Medaille to (14-1) overall and keeps them unbeaten in conference play at (9-0).  The Lady Mavs will take to the road on Wednesday (1/19) when they face Penn State-Behrend in the Junker Center at 6:00pm.
