NEWBURGH, N.Y. – For the first time in nearly seven years, the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team reached the 100-point plateau, this time in a Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College, 100-38. The Knights (13-2 overall, 9-0 Skyline) last reached 100 points in a game on January 8, 2004 in a 106-point effort against Maritime.
After trading baskets to open the game, Mount Saint Mary exploded out to a 21-5 advantage with a 17-0 run. The Knights would go on to score 56 points in the opening half and led by forty at the break. The second half showcased more of the same and the Mount cruised to a 100-38 victory.
Junior Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) was the star for the Knights, scoring a season-high 28 points on 11-of-14 from the field and 6-of-9 from behind the arc. Senior Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) totaled 15 points and six rebounds, while junior Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.) contributed 12 points to go along with nine assists. Junior Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.) also reached double figures with 11 points.
The Knights shot the ball extremely well, finishing at 65.2-percent from the field and 57.1-percent from three. The hot shooting resulted in a season-best 32 assists. On top of Mocanu's nine dimes, sophomore Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) and freshman Fallon Witte (Loudonville, N.Y.) each added seven assists.
For Purchase, freshman Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) scored 17 points on 8-of-14 from the field. The Panthers shot just 25.9-percent from the floor and committed 20 turnovers.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a trip to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18.
