QUINCY, Mass. – For the second consecutive half the Wentworth women's basketball team held an opponent to single digits as the Leopards allowed Eastern Nazarene to score just nine points over the first 20:00, en route to a 56-33 win over the Lions in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.
Trailing 5-2 early in the contest, the Leopards went on a 20-4 run to take a 13-point lead with 7:30 left in the half and never looked back. Wentworth held a 25-9 lead at the break, while holding the hosts to 14.8 percent shooting from the floor.
Leading the way for Wentworth was freshman Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) who led all players in both points and rebounding with 14 of each in registering the game's only double-double. Senior Kirsten Vallone (Avon, N.Y.) added 12 points to the well-balanced offensive effort in which 10n different Leopards scored. Vallone also pulled down seven rebounds and had a pair of assists.
For Eastern Nazarene, sophomore Ace Carradine (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way offensively with a team high 11 points. Classmate Shardae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) and senior Ja'na Jenkins (Oakland, Calif.) scored six points each. Brown and freshman Dianna Bonds (Marietta, Ga.) also had 13 rebounds each in the loss. The Lions were held to just 20.3 percent from the floor the game and turned the ball over 26 times, which resulted in 25 Wentworth points.
The win helps the Leopards remain perfect in TCCC play at 2-0 and raises them to 8-6 on the year while the loss drops Eastern Nazarene to 1-12 and 0-2 in conference. Both teams continue conference play on Saturday as Wentworth hosts Roger Williams and Eastern Nazarene is at Gordon.
