HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The nationally-ranked Mount Union women's basketball team battled back from an early 11-point deficit to claim a 79-68 victory over Juniata (Pa.) at Juniata's own Holiday Classic on Thursday.

Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) scored 19 points and Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) contributed 13 points and nine rebounds for the Purple Raiders (10-1), who stretched their winning streak to five.

Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) added 11 points for the winners.

Mount Union twice trailed by 11, but used a 15-0 rally to take command in the second half.

Five different Eagle scorers took part in an 18-3 run which included 10 consecutive points by the hosts, leaving them with a 26-15 advantage.

Juniata (7-5) later led, 42-31, before the Raiders ran off five straight points -- a pair of free throws by Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) and a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Maggie Miller (Salem/United Local) -- to trim the gap to six before halftime.

In the second half, Wiedt triggered Mount Union's outburst. She made 3 of 4 from the free-throw line and buried a trey. Erin Schmidt (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) also chipped in six points as the Raiders turned a 45-36 deficit into a 51-45 lead.

The Eagles answered back to tie the contest at 56-all before LaMattina nailed a three-pointer to give Mount Union the lead for good.

Juniata pulled within three points on three more occasions, but the Raiders' performance from the charity stripe in the final 2:21 -- 6 of 6 -- widened the gap.

For the home team, Jen Hnatuck scored 17 points and Jordan Hileman finished with 14 points and seven assists. Kate McDonald had a double-double, coming through with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Purple Raiders, who are ranked 11th by ESPN/USA Today and 12th on the D3Hoops.com poll, will play their next game on Wednesday when it returns to Ohio Athletic Conference action. They are scheduled to take on Marietta at 7:30 p.m.
