UT Dallas Women Handed First Loss Of Season, Fall At Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, AR (12.18.10) - Despite a five-point halftime lead, the UT Dallas women's basketball team was handed a 69-60 loss by Ozarks (Ark.) after an early second-half collapse.

Leading 29-24 at the break, UTD (now 9-1, 6-1 ASC) shot just 29.4 percent in the second half as the host Eagles outscored the Comets, 45-31, over the final 20 minutes of play. UTD hit just 10-of-34 shots from the field in the second half, including just 1-of-12 shots (8.3%) from behind the three-point line.

The Eagles (now 7-4, 3-4 ASC) used a 10-0 run early in the second to grab a 40-33 lead with 15:14 remaining after a jumper in the paint by Sabrina Goddard. UO extended its second-half lead to as many as 15 points before the Comets made a late surge to cut the deficit back to single digits.

Senior Tarneisha Scott registered her fifth double-double of the year with a game-best 31 points along with 13 rebounds, topping the 30-point barrier for the second time this season. Senior Tawni Ichimura added 15 points as the only other Comet to reach double figures.

UTD shot just 30.6 percent (19-of-62) as a team against the Eagles, the Comets' second-lowest shooting percentage of the season. The Comets hit just 4-of-27 shots (14.8%) from three-point range and shot 72 percent (18-of-25) from the free-throw line. UTD dominated the boards, outrebounding the Eagles, 45-31.

The Eagles ended the afternoon shooting 50 percent (23-of-46) as a team, hitting just 4-of-13 (30.8%) from three-point range, and shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the foul line.

The Comets return to action and return home Monday night when they host Stevenson (Md.) in a non-conference affair. Tip-off is 5 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
