NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Concordia's Maggie Bauernfiend had 17 points as the visiting Cobbers topped St. Olaf 72-63 in a MIAC women's basketball game on Tuesday at Skoglund Center despite a 23-point game from the Oles' Katie Lauer.
Lauer was a perfect 4-for-4 from the arc and 7-for-11 from the field in the loss, the first for St. Olaf (3-1, 0-1 MIAC).
Erica Nord added 14 points for the Cobbers (3-0, 1-0 MIAC).
The Oles had a double-double from first year post Elise Raney off the bench. Raney had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks in the loss. Mackenzie Wolter added nine points and Eileen O'Donoghue 11 rebounds and five assists.
Concordia led 34-29 in the final minute of the first half and used a 9-0 run to make it 43-29 with 17:24 left. Lauer then scored 10 points in a five-minute stretch to get St. Olaf within five, at 45-40. The Oles were within four on two occasions down the stretch, but went a mere 16-for-32 from the free throw line to help the Cobbers seal the win.
St. Olaf plays at the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday at 3 p.m.
