PORTLAND, Ore. – Led by 32 points from forward Danielle Clauson and a triple-double of 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists by point guard Courtney May, the Concordia University-Portland Cavaliers ran past the George Fox University Bruins 84-64 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday evening here at the Cavalier Gym.

George Fox, which was ranked 4th in the NCAA Division III WBCA poll which came out earlier Tuesday, fell to 3-1 as the Cavaliers, an NAIA team, snapped a 19-game losing streak to the Bruins.  Concordia, which had last beaten the Bruins 77-73 in Newberg on Jan. 23, 1992, improved to 6-3 with its sixth straight win, the last five against Northwest Conference teams.

Concordia scored the first two baskets on a layup by Sarah Eischen and a jumper by Clauson, but the Bruins answered with a rebound basket and free throw by Hannah Munger and a layup by Megan  Arnoldy to go ahead 5-4, their only lead of the game.  Clauson gave the Cavs the lead back with two quick jumpers, and two free throws and a layup by Eischen extended it 12-7 with 15:17 left in the period. 

Layups by Munger and Keisha Gordon around an Arnoldy free throw enabled the Bruins to tie it 12-12, but May hit a three to break the knot for good with 13:20 left.  With Clauson scoring 17 in the half, Concordia stretched its lead to as many as 10 twice before settling for a 42-35 halftime advantage.

Munger hit a layin and Gordon a jumper to bring the Bruins within three at the start of the second half, but Clauson hit three more buckets and May a pair of free throws to boost the Cavs back to a 50-41 lead with 15:38 to play.  An 8-0 run midway through the period featuring a free throw and basket by Clauson, a three-pointer by May, and a hook shot by Eischen made it 66-48 and effectively sealed the Cavs' win.

For the Bruins, it was their most one-sided setback and most points allowed in a game since an 85-61 defeat at the University of Puget Sound on Jan. 6, 2006.  It was also the first loss for new George Fox coach Michael Meek.

Gordon led the Bruins with 21 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while Munger finished with 16 points and six boards.  Carly Towne passed out six assists. George Fox hit .371 (25-63) from the floor, struggled from the line by hitting only 9-19 (.474), and were out-rebounded 45-39. 

Clauson, the Cascade Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week each of the last two weeks, sank 14-25 field goals and 4-5 free throws to come within one point of her career high.  Megan Padilla added 10 points to the Concordia offense, which shot .471 (32-68) from the field, and May had four steals as the Cavaliers forced 22 Bruin turnovers.

NEXT: George Fox faces two more tough NAIA challenges over the Thanksgiving holidays in the Caldwell Best Western Inn & Suites Lady 'Yote Classic at the College of Idaho Nov. 26-27.  The Bruins will first meet Westminster College-Salt Lake City (9-1) Friday at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (4:00 p.m. Pacific).  In the other tournament game Friday, Whitworth University will play the host team at 7:00 p.m. MST ... Concordia will play in the Holy Names Tournament in Oakland, Calif., this weekend, first taking on California State University-Maritime Friday at 12:00 noon.
