York (Pa.) Rolls Past Wilson in Non-Conference Finale

YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball team returned home to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday night as they hosted Wilson College at Wolf Gymnasium. The Spartans rolled past the Phoenix 81-49 as York shot 51.7% from the floor while they held Wilson to just 24.6% shooting in the game.

The game kicked off a season-high four-game homestand for the Green and White. York will play five of their final seven regular season games at home.

How It Happened:

• For the fourth straight game, the Spartans came blazing out of the gates. Senior Joe Polczynski hit a pair of three points to give York the early lead. Colin Rimel hit a pair of threes over the next two minutes as York took a 16-8 lead before the Phoenix called a timeout just 4:58 into the game.

Wilson trimmed the lead to five at 16-11 but the Spartans answered with a 10-2 run to push out to a 26-13 advantage. Wilson cut the Spartan lead back to nine twice but the second time, York responded with back-to-back threes from Travis Stoll to push out to a 15-point lead. The Green and White would settle for a 12-point lead (39-27) at the intermission.

• The Spartans started the second half with a 13-2 run as they hit shots and locked down the Phoenix on the defensive end of the floor. The run to start the half ended up being part of a larger 27-7 run as the Spartans surged to a 66-34 lead with 10:42 left in the game.

• Spartan head coach Matt Hunter used the lead to rest his starters and get significant time for his reserves. The Spartans got points from 15 of the 16 players who played including junior Chris Tracy who netted his first career bucket with 34 seconds left in the game, much to the delight of the entire Spartan bench.

• The Spartans finished the game with a 32-point bulge, marking their second 30-plus point win of the year.

The Spartans are now 2-0 all-time against Wilson with both wins coming at Wolf Gymnasium … York improves to 6-1 at Wolf Gymnasium … York shot over 50% for the ninth time this year but the first time since their last home game on January 5 against Marymount … the Spartans hit a season-best 16 three pointers in the win … the 16 threes marks the 11th time this year that York has hit double figures in three pointers … York pulled in a season-high 52 three pointers … York held Wilson to just 24.6% shooting from the floor, their best defensive effort of the year … the 49 points are the fewest allowed by the Spartans this year … York tied a season-high with their eight blocked shots … York attempted a season-low six free throws in the game as the Phoenix sat in zone the entire game … the Spartan starters combined to play just 78 minutes in the game with no starter playing more than 18 minutes in the game … sophomore Colin Rimel set a new career-high with 12 points while his four three pointers set a new career standard … senior Jared Wagner handed out 11 assists in his 18 minutes of play … that's the fifth time this year he has reached double figures in assists in the game …. Wagner passed John Ely for 15th place on the all-time scoring list as he now has 1,279 points … freshman Matt Faller set a new career high with five points including his first career three-pointer … sophomore Sean Kelly pulled in a game-high six rebounds for York, that was also his career-high … freshman Tristan Kent recorded a career-high in blocked shots with two … sophomore Travis Stoll collected a career-high five rebounds to go along with six points, one blocked shot, one assist and one steal … Stoll tied his career high with two three point field goals.
