GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Behind 26 points, six steals, and four assists from Rich Dunham, the Gwynedd Mercy Men's Basketball team held off Rutgers-Camden, 78-73, Monday night in non-conference action at The Griffin Complex.

For Dunham, his six steals on the evening moved him on top of the program record books as the senior surpassed former Griffin Dan DelConte for the all-time lead with 179.

Jeff Seigafuse kicked in 14 points while Austin Harriott totaled 11 as the Griffins broke a 57-57 tie with eight minutes to play and were able to outlast the Scarlet-Raptors.

Arian Azemi totaled 19 points, seven assists, five boards and a pair of steals for Rutgers-Camden. Teammate Issac Destin netted 12 points including his 1,000th of his career early in the first half.

In the first half, both teams traded leads on seven occasions but the Griffins looked to build a lead into halftime late in the stanza. A 13-4 run capped by a wide open Matt Carter three at the top of the key gave GMercyU its largest lead of the game (36-26) with just over two minutes before the break. Rutgers-Camden got a late three from Jake Petrik to cut it to a 38-33 score at the end of 20 minutes. In that first half, Gwynedd Mercy shot over 52% from the floor, hit 6-of-12 from downtown, and limited R-C to 46% shooting.

The Scarlet-Raptors came out firing in the second half, going on an 11-1 spurt to start the period which gave them their largest lead (44-39) of the night. Dunham's mid-court steal and breakaway dunk helped put GMercyU back on top by one but nor before a three from Ian McCarthy to reclaim the lead.

Duham struck from behind the arc on a nice kickout from Jordan Perkins for a wide-open three to take the lead for good, 60-57 with 8:28 to go. Rutgers tried to keep pace but a key play from Nathaniel Walker helped turn the tide for good. His diving mid-air putback off a miss from Seigafuse fell and the ensuing foul shot put the crowd up on its feet for a 68-64 edge with 4:42 remaining.

The team then hit six free throws in six tries down the stretch including two from Manny Clark with the team up three with five seconds to help account for the final score.

Gwynedd Mercy opens Atlantic East play this Saturday when they head to Scranton to face Marywood.
