LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's basketball team overcame an 11-point halftime deficit and was able to tie the game in the second half.

But Caltech was too big and strong for the Tigers, and Oxy didn't play its game, falling 67-57 on the road on Monday.

Caleb Yellin-Flaherty, whose been outstanding all season for Oxy and had 31 points in Oxy's first SCIAC game against Redlands, had 12 points and six rebounds, but was pressing at times and shot just 4 for 17 from the field. He didn't quite have his form after missing some time due to injury.

Jacob Adler added 13 points and six assists, but shot just 1 for 6 from three.

Sydney Shipp was Oxy's biggest bright spot, sparking the Tigers in the second half with his full court pressure defense, forcing turnovers and allowing a smaller Oxy lineup to run the floor. He finished with 11 points and three steals.

Kyle Dosa added nine points, Ryan Kaneshiro had four points and five rebounds, and Anthony Hollerich was solid off the bench with a couple rebounds and a big three during Oxy's second-half run.

Spencer Schneider led the Beavers with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Marcus Gee had 15 points and Alec Andrew had 10 points and five assists.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 8-3 overall and 0-2 in SCIAC on the season.

Caltech improves to 3-7 and 2-0.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Wednesday at Chapman at 7 p.m. The Tigers then remain on the road to face Cal Lutheran at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and then return home against La Verne on Jan. 15.
