Birmingham-Southern cruises past Pensacola Christian 130-98

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team routed Pensacola Christian College 130-98 at home on Tuesday night.

After an initial back-and-forth fight with the Eagles, the Panthers started dominating the visitors towards the end of the first half, taking a 13-point lead into halftime.

The Panthers went on an 11-2 run to start the second half and kept their foot on the gas, extending the lead to 30 points with 12:37, maintaining it, and then grabbing their biggest lead of the night – 39 points – with just under three minutes left to play.

The three-point shot was big for BSC on Tuesday. For the game, the Panthers were 55.6 percent from beyond the arch, making 20 of 36 shots from three. Senior Calvin Bak (Muscle Shoals, Ala./Muscle Shoals HS) hit seven of BSC's 20 three-pointers in the game, finishing with 23 points. He was 8-of-12 from the field.

Junior forward Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) was BSC's leading scorer, dropping 25 points. He also had 10 rebounds, giving him his second double-double of the year, and added three assists.

Denman Kane (Houston, Texas/Episcopal HS), Bruce Bright (Birmingham, Ala./John Carroll HS), Conor O'Sullivan (Tower Cork, Ireland/Cork Institute of Technology), and Josh Childers (Madison, Ala./Westminster Christian Academy) also came off the bench to score in the double-digits for the Panthers.

BSC shot 58.5 percent from the field and 73.7 percent from the free throw line against the Eagles. The 130 points were the most scored by BSC this season, and the 32-point win was the largest margin of victory for the Panthers so far this campaign.

With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 3-5 on the season. The team will play its next game on the road at Huntingdon on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The Panthers defeated the Hawks 83-73 in their last meeting on Nov. 16.
