Strong Second Half Shooting Helps Baruch Defeat Coast Guard (65-58)

The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Bears from the Coast Guard Academy, 65-58, on Saturday night at the Colonials Classic in Danbury, Connecticut.

The game began with difficulty with Bears scoring the first nine points, but the Bearcats responded by scoring 12 straight to lead 12-9 in the early going.

The two teams battled back-and-forth with neither able to take control until the final eight minutes.

After a three by the Bears cut the Bearcats' lead to 52-51 with 7:47 left, the Bearcats scored seven straight to pull ahead 59-51. That key run proved critical as the Bearcats went on to win, 65-58.

Sean Donnellan led the Bearcats with a game-high 17 points, while Emil Purisic came off the bench to contribute 12 points (5-for-5 FG, 2-for-2 FT). George Smyth, Jr. narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.   

The bench came up big this evening with 25 total points.

Justin Kane led the Bears with 19 points and eight rebounds. His team struggled shooting 32 percent (23-for-71) from the field.
