ELSAH, IL.-Bouncing back from the season-opening loss on the road, the Mountaineers played a strong defensive game against Principia College. Principia College (0-1) were limited to a 37.5% percent clip from the floor, and 20% from beyond the arc. Berea College held a 44-32 advantage on the glass and limited Principia to just 5 second chance points.
Freshman guard Kevion Hudson scored a team-high 20 points to lead Berea College on the offensive side of the court. The Louisville, Kentucky, native made five of his eight shot attempts from the floor and nine out of eleven free throws. Right behind Hudson was sophomore Isaac Caudill, who tallied 18 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Terique Miller also added 10 points off the bench, adding 9 rebounds.
Trevaugn Goodman and Payton Sellers paced Principia with 23 and 14 points respectively. The duo combined for more than half of Principia's field goals.
The Mountaineers led by as much as 15, thanks to a fast start in the 2nd half, leading by 54-39 in the 10 minute mark, but Principia was able to slowly chip away at the lead, bringing it down to 1 in the final minutes of the game multiple times. But clutch free throws by both Hudson and Caudill allowed the Mountaineers to escape with a road win.
Up next, the Mountaineers will play their home-opener against Campbellsville-Harrodsburg (Nov. 13). Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Roland Wierwille Court.
