The Oglethorpe men's basketball team saw three players named to All-SAA teams Monday, while senior center Tom Inungu earned the SAA Defensive Player of the Year award for his performance over the course of the season. Inungu also earned a spot on the All-SAA first team, while senior forward Will Perry came in with All-SAA second team honors and sophomore forward Will Koch earned All-SAA honorable mention.
Inungu finished his Oglethorpe career with his best season yet, earning all-conference first team honors for the first time and taking his second All-SAA accolade after being named to the second team his junior season. He finishes the season having won the league's blocks title, finishing first in the category with 2.0 per game and 54 total. He's also fifth in the league in rebounding (6.6 per game) and free throws made (85), and is tied for fourth in made field goals (127). Inungu is fourth in the SAA in offensive rebounding with 2.3 per game. He earned SAA Player of the Week honors on Feb. 4.
Perry finished his Oglethorpe career with two straight All-SAA honors after taking home All-SAA first team accolades in 2018. This season, he finished fourth in the league in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest. He also finished second in the league with 5.7 defensive rebounds per game and fifth with 31.3 minutes per contest. He was named to the SAA all-tournament team for his efforts at the conference tournament in Danville, Kentucky, over the weekend, and earned SAA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 17.
Koch earned his first career All-SAA honor. He finished fifth in the league in free-throw percentage with a mark of 75.4 percent, and came in fourth in defensive rebounding with 5.5 per game. He also finished in the league's top 10 in rebounding (6.1 per game) and scoring (12.3 points per game). He earned SAA Player of the Week honors on Jan. 28.
The Petrels finished the season 14-13 overall and 7-7 in SAA play, good enough for fourth place in the league. It marked the seventh straight season that the Petrels finished in the top half of the league standings. They fell to top-seeded Centre 75-72 Saturday in a hard-fought SAA Tournament semifinal.
