Hamline Stays Undefeated at Hutton Arena

The Piper men's basketball team made their first three shots -- and never stopped shooting all afternoon in a 77-63 victory over Carleton at Hutton  Arena. HU shot 55,.8 per cent from the field (29-52), including 14 three-pointers as HU stretched their record on the home hardwood to 7-0 for the season. The verdict lifted Hamline to an 8-6 overall and a 5-4 standing in the MIAC. 

Isaac Brooks continued his climb towards the 1,000 point club. The senior forward registered 19 for the afternoon  and now has 965 for his HU career. He corralled a game high eight rebounds. Connor Knutson drilled four three-pointers for a dozen points with five boards. Two other backcourters -- Jake Larson and Trey Prince -- did their part with 11 points apiece. Larson had a game high seven assists and also snagged five rebounds while Prince contributed three three-pointers. 

HU came out gunning, grabbing an 8-0 lead in the first 1:47 of play. The Knights crept back within 11-10 only to see HU have a 12-5 spurt in a four minute time span to seize control of the game. A Brooks trey finished off the first half which saw Hamline holding a 42-24 edge. 

The Knights tallied the first five points of the second half to close to 42-37 only to see Hamline respond with a 13-2 run and the issue was never in doubt after that. Matthew Stritzel led all scorers with 21 points for Carleton (6-9, 3-6 MIAC).

Hamline remains home next Wednesday, January 16, hosting Augsburg at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The teams met December 5 in Minneapolis with Augsburg claiming a 68-65 decision.
