Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Opens 2018-19 Season With 113-73 Win Over Bob Jones

Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 10, 2018) –
The Pfeiffer men's basketball team had three players score in double-figures and hit 23 three-pointers in a 113-73 win in the 2018-19 opener at Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (1-0) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead after back-to-back three's from Kyle Riddley (Charlotte, N.C.) but the visiting Bruins were able to tie the game at 8-8 with 17:10 remaining in the first following a layup from Quiyante Burroughs.

Pfeiffer then went on to rattle off seven straight points to lead 15-8, but would then distance themselves from BJU, building a 23-point lead (56-33) by halftime.

In the second half, the Falcons would extend their lead to 70-40 at the 16:21 mark following another Riddley three-pointer.  Bob Jones would get no closer than 25 points the rest of the way, as Pfeiffer took the 113-73 win.

Pfeiffer was especially lethal from long-range, hitting 23 three-pointers on the afternoon, finishing 23-of-48 for a 47.9% clip.  Collectively, Pfeiffer finished 38-of-69 from the floor (55.1%) and 14-of-21 (66.7%) from the free throw line.  The Falcons also forced 27 turnovers, converting those miscues into 44 points.

Individually, Riddley finished with a game-high 35 points, finishing 7-of-8 from long range and 13-of-17 from the field. He also added a team-high six rebounds in the win. Sophomore Blake Smith (Wilmington, N.C.) had 15 points on a 5-of-10 outing from long range to go along with Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.), who also finished with 15 points.

With the win, Pfeiffer gave head coach Pete Schoch his first win at the helm of the Falcon program.  Pfeiffer also extends their season-opening win streak to five games.  The last time the Falcons fell in their season opener was in 2013-14 to Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday, Nov. 16 when they host Warren Wilson at 7:00 p.m. in Merner Gym.
