- The Lead: Led by a 21-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple double from junior Bradley Jomard (Paris, France), the No. 12 ranked MIT men's basketball team defeated visiting Clark University by an 89-58 final at Rockwell Cage. The triple-double is the second of Jomard's career and just the third in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Engineers jumped out to an early 9-2 lead over the opening 3:45, capped by a jumper from freshman Hamilton Forsythe (Weston, Conn.). A Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, Calif.) three-pointer just three minutes later gave MIT a double-digit edge at 16-6 before the Cougars put together a 9-4 run of their own, including a three from Luca McCormack at 9:46.
- Clark continued to trail by just five at 22-17 before a 10-2 Engineer spurt put the hosts back up 13 at 32-19 with four minutes left before the half. A three from Kyle Coughlin briefly pulled the Cougars within 11 before a 9-2 MIT run to end the half gave the Engineers the 43-25 edge at the break.
- MIT shot 68 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three over the first half, while the Cougars forced 11 turnovers by the Engineers. Forsythe led MIT in the period with 11 points, while Biko Gayman and McCormick paced the visitors with nine each.
- In the second half, the Engineers led by at least 20 over the last 18:50 and by as many as 32, en route to the 89-58 win. MIT now leads the all-time series with the Cougars by a 41-37 margin dating back to 1922-23.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jomard led four MIT starters in double figures as he was 6-for-8 from the field and 8-for-12 at the free throw line. Forsythe finished 22 points, along with 15 from Korb and 14 from junior Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.).
- For Clark, Gayman posted 17 points and McCormick had 15, along with an 11-point effort from John Pisacreta.
- The Cougars forced 23 turnovers, while MIT turned Clark over 24 times and earned a 24-18 edge in points off turnovers. MIT also controlled points in the paint by a 40-24 margin and held a 41-31 rebounding advantage
