Union, NJ – Freshman guard Myles Mitchell-White scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half, including a pair of free throws late as Montclair State got back on the winning track with a 70-67 win over Kean University on Wednesday evening.

Mitchell-White returned to the lineup after a two-game absence and helped the Red Hawks snap a two-game losing streak. MSU improved to 12-5 overall, 6-4 in NJAC play as it swept the season series against the Cougars (5-12, 3-7 NJAC).

A three-pointer by Jovanni Chatham with 36 seconds left in the first half gave Montclair State a 36-33 lead at halftime, a lead it would carry throughout the second half while fending off several threats by Kean.

The Cougars tied the game early in the second on a three by Carry Saturne, however Montclair countered with a 15-5 run over a five-minute span. Mitchell-White scored six straight in the run and a three-pointer by Daniel Ramis gave MSU at 51-41 lead with 13:57 to go.

Kean managed to claw its way back thanks to guard Keenan Williams, Jr., who scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half and hit three times from behind the arc. His three with 2:02 left cut the deficit a one possession and another with 34 seconds made the score 68-67.

After the three, Montclair ran the clock down to 17 seconds before calling timeout. Kean fouled twice sending Mitchell-White to the line where he would make both attempts for a 70-67 advantage with 13 seconds. With a foul to give, MSU committed one with eight seconds left leaving the Cougars one last shot which it would get. But Williams' three from the left wing went off the mark at the buzzer sounded.

Chatham finished with 14 points while Ramis added 12. Kaan Yilmaz delivered eight points and five rebounds with Eddie Emedoh and Jarrett Bogus each getting six points.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, January 20 traveling to Newark, NJ for its second meeting of the season with Rutgers-Newark. The Red Hawks and Scarlet Raiders square off at the Golden Dome at 8:00 pm.
